Database Structures
All shape, plate, and bolt parameters used by
ProSteel 3D are posted in databases that can be
freely edited and expanded by the user. This
makes it easy to add any desired intermediate
size or even entire shape catalogues (e.g.,
non-European standards) to the existing shape
databases.
It is even possible to assign any individual
shape series to several different databases,
e.g., defining different selection tables for
each shape type in case of splice joints.
Easy
Input Concept
The fact that ProSteel 3D is one of the
user-friendliest 3D steel construction
applications is due to the structure of the
interface. All commands such as plate
connections, ribs, web angles, notches, borings,
etc. always function according to the same
principle. All you have to do is select the
building components that are to be connected with
one another. ProSteel 3D either shortens or
lengthens the corresponding shapes, generates the
desired joint, and screws all components
together. Any necessary changes are already
visible during the definition phase.
UCS
Independence
Contrary to other applications ProSteel 3D
processes are for the most part carried out
independently from the current coordinate system.
For example, users do not have to consider the
current user defined coordinate system position
and location when attaching a rib. Only the shape
and the insertion point have to be specified.
Teamwork
without Limits
Several persons working together on one
project is a task specially supported by ProSteel
3D. It is thus possible, for example, to position
and components as well as generate parts lists
via several drawings.
ACIS
Support
The use of special technologies makes it
possible to consider 3D bodies from other
applications (ACIS volume bodies) such as
Mechanical-Desktop within ProSteel 3D. Moreover,
it is also possible to convert any element of
ProSteel 3D to ACIS bodies.
This might be practical when developing an edge
component with a corresponding sheet metal
application.
Editable
Standards
"I would like the Italian salad but
without onions and blue cheese dressing instead
of the vinaigrette." This real-life example
illustrates the ProSteel 3D motto:
"Standards yes, but editable
standards." A selection list (DAST standard)
organized in table form is available for every
type of joint such as rigid plates, base plates,
frontal plates, web angles, notches, etc. It is
also possible, however, to modify existing
parameters or to redefine the joint completely
new. This makes it easy, for example, to insert a
rigid plate according to DAST (IH3E) and then to
modify this plate's dimensions or position.
Standard values are thus always at your
fingertips and you can react individually to any
constructions task.
International
Due to its global distribution, ProSteel 3D
is now available in approx. 15 countries (summer
'99) and several languages. In addition to
German, English, and Dutch it will soon be ready
in French and Italian as well.
Installation
+ Training
The use of the latest software technologies
reduces the installation effort to just a few
mouse clicks.
The training time required to learn ProSteel 3D
depends on the amount of previous knowledge a
user has and amounts to approx. 2 to 4 days,
thanks to the completely redesigned manual
featuring an autodidactic structure.
